Lord of the Yum Yum tonight at Cranky Yellow

LORD OF THE YUM YUM

We are so super excited to host Lord of the Yum Yum at Cranky Yellow on August 16, 2010! He’s apparently quite a character with his acapella antics and general popitude! We might have to step up our game to play with this master-mind of vintage prom attire! Not to mention the beef his biographical information discloses:
“Lord of the Yum-Yum is about giving some maximum happy feelings…feelings of innocence and yesteryear, in a happier time when live entertainers were still part of the world. The ‘Lord’ is about re-living your childhood through song and dance. Ridiculous in 2007!, Lord of the Yum-Yum sings grind/scat vocal versions of familiar classical pieces, remixes them up with beat-boxing and live electronic loop making techniques, all powered by a wireless mic and old school ruffle tuxedos…it IS the new rock alternative!
As a performer, Lord of the Yum-Yum aka Paul Velat has toured nationally with a concentration on the Midwest and since 1991, he has done many radio and television appearances as well as hundreds of performances around the greater Chicago area.”
So don’t miss it you butt-heads! August 16th, 2010 @ 8pm at Cranky Yellow! GET IT!

Stop by The Firecracker Press on Saturday, August 14th at 2:00pm (that's tomorrow) as we invite local historian, Bob Mullen, to talk about his book and shed light on the subject of type. How was it made and who was making it? Bob will enlighten us and the dudes at Firecracker will be printing a type specimen using, DeVinne, a font designed and made at the Central Typefoundry in downtown StL.

Don't miss this rare opportunity. You'll get a handset, and handprinted type specimen with the cost of admission. And it's only $5.00!

Film night @ Cranky yellow!

Join us for the St. Louis screening of the award-winning* documentary, Skin Trade by Shannon Keith:

What would you do if you found out the "faux" fur trim on your neck was really made of dog fur? How far will the fur industry go to get you to buy real fur? Skin Trade takes you on a journey from the birth of the fur industry as fashion through the current trends, misconceptions, and lies perpetrated upon unknowing consumers. Voices from the underground, celebrities, historians, native americans, activists, designers, fashion icons and experts weigh in on the current use of of fur as fashion, which inevitably begs the question, "Why are animals still being killed for fashion?"

Ever been to Cranky Yellow? If not, you're missing out! Cranky Yellow is a large scale cultural art experiment based in a collaborative, interactive and ever evolving process.www.crankyyellow.com

Stay after the film for a discussion and to brainstorm ways to be active for animals.

The film is free, but donations are welcome. We'll be donating to ARME (Animal Rescue, Media and Education). http://WWW.ARME.TV/
Started by animal rights attorney, Shannon Keith, in 2004, ARME works in conjunction with Uncaged Films to make documentary films that educate the public about animal abuse.
