STUFF VS. STUFF THIS SATURDAY @ FORT GONDO!
MINIMALISTS BE DAMNED!
BEVERLYEAR 2010 EXHIBITION 7
ITEMS IN THE INTERIM:
AN INSTALLATION BY CARA PETERSON
Arriving from Denver with her car tightly packed with STUFF, artist Cara Peterson will mine the materially fertile basement of Fort Gondo to find more STUFF to ultimately yield her installation of, well, lots of STUFF.
ITEMS IN THE INTERIM is an installation of paintings, drawings, photographs and found sculpture that will run at Fort Gondo Compound for the Arts in St. Louis from July 10 - 31st. This is a diverse collection of Cara Peterson's work that explores the unique relationships created between our unwanted objects when they end up in junk stores across the country. Peterson uses the displays set up within these spaces as sorts of accidental still lives that provide her with an honest artistic opportunity to document objects past their prime and in transition to find renewed life.
DOUBLE-STUFF OREOS FOR ALL!
OPENING RECEPTION SATURDAY, JULY 10, 6 - 10:00 PM

Life Blood Exhibit coming to Fort Gondo
Life Blood Exhibit is coming!
This traveling art show features thirteen St. Louis women artists exploring the theme of menstruation, from menarche to motherhood to menopause and more. Some works are humorous while others are serious, but all are thought-provoking. Please see the shows, join in the conversation, and help break the taboo! More information can be found on the website. http://www.lifebloodexhibit.com/
Artists:
Lisa Becker, Danielle Correll, Annette Crymes, Marsha Heck, Christine Ilewski, Aunia Kahn, Arlene Ligori, Barbara Merlotti, Janice Nesser, Pat Owoc, Roxanne Phillips, Evie Shucart, Jennifer Weigel
What:
Life Blood Exhibit is a group art show curated by Jennifer Weigel and themed around menstruation that will travel to various venues throughout the St. Louis metro region from 2010 – 2011 and then travel nationally from 2011 – 2012. Each showing will highlight different artists in the group.
Preview Party Kickoff!
Friday, April 9, 2010, 7 – 10 PM: Fort Gondo Compound for the Arts as part of beverlyear
This one-night-only event will include a small sampling of works in the exhibition, a bathroom installation by Jennifer Weigel and a silent auction including artworks by local artists, a Luna Pads intro kit & two certificates towards The Keeper menstrual cup products.
By drawing attention to the female body and to the menstrual cycle, artists are able to comment on this life-giving aspect of womanhood and to celebrate and/or show their discontent with their own bodies & cycles. We are able to offer commentary on experience, confront stereotypes & assumptions and educate one another about things too often left unsaid. Thus we can explore the positive & negative to turn around preconceptions and help break the taboo surrounding menstruation.

"Over Head" opening this Friday at Fort Gondo, featuring work by Nicole Stevens

"Over Head" is the first exhibition in Beverlyear, a year-long series of women artists at Fort Gondo. It will feature animation and sound work by Nicole Stevens. The opening reception will be held Friday, January 15, from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m.
Featuring cutup footage from the New York Stock Exchange archive, different groups take turns continuously acting out the narrative of ringing the bell in the opening/ closing ceremonies.
Dealing with the intimate and dually abstract experience of understanding the economy, the sound pieces feature daily recordings of the Dow Jones Industrial Average and NASDAQ phrasing.
The show continues through January 30th by appointment.
