Art of all kinds at Cherokee's Cinco de Mayo Festival

St. Louis's largest Cinco de Mayo celebration will take place Saturday, May 2
from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Cherokee Street between Nebraska and Iowa. The festival will include live music on two stages, authentic Mexican food and drinks, a parade starting at 1:11pm, live art demonstrations, an artist village, a mechanical bull, and a variety of exhibitors and vendor booths.

Festival-goers will be captivated by the culture and energy of the many Hispanic purveyors who call Cherokee Street home. Traditional Mexican cuisine and drinks are a hallmark of the event.

More than a dozen bands will perform throughout the course of the day on two stages. The MAIN STAGE will feature the rhythms and beats of Latino artist Javier Mendoza, St. Louis's number one funk and disco band, Boogie Chyld, female sensation Destinadas (Chicago, IL), 8-piece local Mexican band Tamborazo Mixteco, and Mayra y la Fuerza del Amor from Puebla, Mexico.

The LOVE-O-RAMA GRINGO STAGE will showcase a diverse selection of local and regional talent including Fire Dog Celia's Big Rock Band, Cherokee Street FOOTBEAT, A Bit Shifty, Bridgeton Air Defense, Simon, and Noman.

As in years past, there will be live painting and art demonstrations by St. Louis-based ArtDimensions, with some pieces being auctioned.

New additions to this year’s festival include the Art Vecindario (Artist Neighborhood), the ALEGRIA de LA GENTE Parade (People’s Joy Parade), and a mechanical bull!

Located next to Firecracker Press, the Art Vecindario is an enclave of creatives offering handmade wares from St. Louis & beyond.

The ALEGRIA de LA GENTE Parade will feature street performers, art cars, musicians, bike brigades, floats, cardboard bricoleurs, dancers, drag queens, rabble-rousers, marching bands, Mexican wrestlers, robot makers, and more. The parade will start at 1:11pm at Minnesota and Cherokee.

For more information on the event or to participate as a vendor or in the parade please visit http://www.cincodemayostl.com.
