Cherokee-Lemp History Fair this weekend

Celebrate National Preservation Month on Cherokee Antique Row as you shop and tour our historic district during the Cherokee-Lemp 10th Annual History Fair.

EVENT: Cherokee-Lemp 10th Annual History Fair
DATE: May 16 & 17, 2008 - Saturday & Sunday
TIME: 10:00AM - 5:00PM
Free Live Music Noon - 4:00PM
PLACE: Cherokee Street, from Jefferson East to DeMenil Place
COST: Free admission

Enjoy free live music performances by "The Original Knights of Swing" St. Louis's premier big band ensemble both Saturday & Sunday from Noon to 4:00PM at the intersection of Cherokee and Illinois.

Dozens of history markers offer a self-guided tour of the area while you shop among over 30 retailer outlets featuring antique and vintage furniture, china and glassware, retro cécor, vintage clothing, architectural artifacts, folk art and an amazing variety of collectible and specialty items.

Visit our Art and Photography Galleries, Museums, and Restaurants featuring the area's newest microbrewery, The Stable, at 1821 Cherokee Street. The Stable takes its name from its location in a building that once served as the horse stables and wagon house used by the Lemp brewery.

While you're here, don't miss the 3rd Rehabbers Club Annual Used Book Sale at the Chatillon-DeMenil Mansion. This year, the Chatillon-DeMenil House Foundation's Used Book Sale has a great collection of books related to fabric art and various crafts, as well as some really really nice art books.

All proceeds benefit the restoration of the Chatillon-DeMenil House, which has been operating as a house museum since 1966 -- and tours are free during the sale! We have some beautiful ceramics, portraits and decorative arts at the house (as well as a beautiful house), and even some hair art if that's your area of interest.... Come on down for a tour and take some cheap books home with you!

This popular sale donates all proceeds to the Chatillon-DeMenil Mansion for ongoing renovation projects. Guided tours of the mansion are available 10:00AM - 4:00PM. The last tour of the day starts at 3:15PM.

Spend the night where famous beer barons slept at the Lemp Mansion Restaurant & Inn and enjoy both days of the Fair!

Custom canvases and panels from City Art Supply are compatible with oils, acrylics, gouache, flashe, virtually any medium. Art panels are highly versatile -- recommended especially for mixed media projects and classic egg tempera paints for durability.

The surface can be sanded down to an ivory-like consistency for an
extra charge.

Diary of Consequence:

Works on paper and mixed media constructions.

The work selected for the Snowflake exhibit chronicles a significant chapter of my life.

After twenty-two years I closed my New York workspace in March of 2009. Shipping and storing paintings, sculpture, works on paper, books and a variety of collections that became in a sense a diary of work, of life, of time.

As some diaries are written and kept private, these are re-configured as objects. Revealing or with direct nuance concealing a content of ebb and flow.

What can be read from the constructed diaries is a logic of skewed observations and twisted irony. Relationships made from scrap and literature link pathways short and long, near and distant.

The works on paper range in date from 1989, a selection from the late summer of 2008 and works completed in the last days of April 2009.

Presented is a continuing dialogue of drawing and constructions as the conceptual observation of all possibilities.
