Lumberyard 6 Release Party at the Firecracker Press
We’ve been working hard on Lumberyard Magazine for three years now. With two issues per year… that makes this Summer’s issue, say, number six? That’s right, number six.
If you’ve followed Lumberyard’s short history you know that it’s gotten plenty of attention from the graphic design community and the poetry community as well (see the July issue of Small Business Monthly).
If you know nothing about Lumberyard it’s your lucky day. Saturday, July 31st at 7:00pm, The Firecracker Press will host “The Lumberyard Magazine #6 – Release Party.” We’ll have plenty of copies for sale, Kate from Beep Beep Boop Boop will DJ the night away, and Summer refreshments will be available.
Be seeing you.

City-Wide Open Studios on Cherokee Street -- who's in?
Work by Dana Smith at the much-missed City Art Supply, Open Studios 2009
Are you participating in the Contemporary Art Museum's City-Wide Open Studios tour this summer -- and are you going to be in an open studio on Cherokee Street? Let me know, so I can post about it here.
Last year I visited a few spots and saw terrific work, so if you are not in an open studio yourself, then by all means get out and see folks' work this year. Studios south of I-44 (this includes Cherokee Street) will be open on Saturday, July 24, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
From what I can tell from the map on the Contemporary's web site, these are some of the open studios on Cherokee this year. But I'm not as smart as the map so I have a feeling I'm missing people. Plus, I'd love to let everyone know about the work of individual artists/studios, so if you have an image and/or description of your work and/or a link to a web site or Facebook fan page or additions or deletions or corrections or whatnot, please note that in the comments section and I'll try to get it posted.

STUFF VS. STUFF THIS SATURDAY @ FORT GONDO!
MINIMALISTS BE DAMNED!
BEVERLYEAR 2010 EXHIBITION 7
ITEMS IN THE INTERIM:
AN INSTALLATION BY CARA PETERSON
Arriving from Denver with her car tightly packed with STUFF, artist Cara Peterson will mine the materially fertile basement of Fort Gondo to find more STUFF to ultimately yield her installation of, well, lots of STUFF.
ITEMS IN THE INTERIM is an installation of paintings, drawings, photographs and found sculpture that will run at Fort Gondo Compound for the Arts in St. Louis from July 10 - 31st. This is a diverse collection of Cara Peterson's work that explores the unique relationships created between our unwanted objects when they end up in junk stores across the country. Peterson uses the displays set up within these spaces as sorts of accidental still lives that provide her with an honest artistic opportunity to document objects past their prime and in transition to find renewed life.

Description
Residing in University City, a suburb of St. Louis City, the members of Illphonics have all been involved in the creation of music since early childhood. Members include Larry "Fallout" Morris (emcee), Kevin "Killa K" Koehler (guitarist), Tim Edwards (guitarists), Keith "Bizkits" Moore (keys), Simon "Spanky" Chervitz (bass) and Chaz "CB" Brew (drummer).
With their live show being described as "P-Funk meets Pink Floyd", Illphonics wraps its sound around the most diverse crowds. In addition to delivering the blending and bending of music genres, they deliver what music started out as, a good damn show. While relatable, Illphonics challenges the music listener to hear something different than what has become the norm. The stomach churning of Jimi Hendrix’s riffs and the heavy groove of Thelonious Monk still live through this melting pot of souls known as Illphonics.
The Illphonics have opened for National Recording Acts including Lupe Fiasco (2007), The Roots (2008) and Everclear (2008). They earned second place in the Southern Comfort Tasty Band Competition, played The Taste of St. Louis, Playback:STL Music Festival and Rockin for Barack Election Benefit.
Since 2006 Illphonics has refined and redefined themselves as artists and as musicians. They've committed their lives to their dreams and are making hopes realities with the commitment to be better today than they were yesterday and sharing that with whoever will listen.

Description
Hello All,
Originally this show was going to be at the Library, but that venue closed its doors on June 30th, so we had to make some quick moves and do some begging to get another venue on July 10th. Luckily Foam came through for us. This will be a more intimate show for sure, but trust when we say we are still bringing the rock.
Remember, this show kicks off Eric's Birthday week, which ends on July 17th at the show at St. Charles Coffee House. So come spend an evening with the band and wish Eric Happy B-Day.
As always, please invite you friends, family, enemies, anyone you know that like good live music ------------------------------------------------------------------->
